Have I ever mentioned that the best feeling in the world is getting new beauty products in the mail?
Now that I’m back in full-time work (and why posts have been few and far in between of late), I’m taking advantage of it and indulging in some beauty faves and some beauty newbies!
I thought I’d add a new thing at the end, where I talk about my beauty wish-list – if you’ve tried these products, leave a review in the comments box and let me know if it’s worth the splurge.
I am in LOVE with this! Honestly, it’s so worth the hype and every dollar. I had this used on me just before I left for my overseas adventure, but being prudent in the finance department meant that I didn’t buy it. So now I could be less prudent, this was the first thing I bought! The colour match is seamless, and I’ve actually stopped wearing any foundation and just use this under my eyes, around my nose and a bit on the chin and I’m good to go! I’ll definitely be repurchasing this, but a little goes a long way so I don’t think I’ll be buying a new one for a while (thankfully because these babies don’t come cheap!).
Phew, that’s a mouthful, and a handful to type! Long name aside, this is pretty good. I bought a shade too light (ah Australia, land of porcelain, white and ‘medium’ shades) but I managed to blend it in with my foundation so it didn’t look too bad. I find the formula a bit cakey and not as easy to work with and blend as the Nars Radiant concealer, but at more than half the price of the of the Nars one, it does the trick. It looks great in photos though and gives that nice smooth look so if you’re one for the selfies, this is your go to product!
Another product that I tried before leaving Australia, this is so finely milled and doesn’t leave a cakey finish. Like most Nars products, a little goes a long way so you’ll end up using this for anywhere between 6 to 12 months, depending how often you powder. The only thing I don’t like is that it’s really hard to get any product out! It’s one of those loose powders that come with a sifter-plastic lid thing and you really have to tap it against a hard surface to get any product out. I’m not sure if there’s a special technique for this (if there is, can you please let me know?!) but damn, I have to work hard to get that powder out!
I’m confused about this product. I bought this in February last year and I loved it – it was an easy, fuss-free brow liner that gave me gorgeous, natural brows. Loved it so much I regretted not buying more when I moved to Vientiane. Kept thinking about it so much that it was one of the first things I ordered online when I got my first paycheck. Got it, tried it and was bitterly disappointed. I don’t know what’s happened but the formula is beyond difficult to work with; I have to rub my brows red just to get any product on there and my brows look worse than they did before. I’m going to persevere and keep trying to be friends with it, but I don’t like my and its chances.
Yes, it’s gonna be Nars review this month. I actually have had this for probably four years – I got it as part of an Andy Warhol collection set. I never used it because I have my fave liner (the K-Palette Tattoo liner) but when that ran out, I thought I’d give this a whirl. Massive dislike! The felt pen is beyond difficult to use, I can barely do a good flick with it. The formula is not water-resistant and is kinda thick and harsh. It’s ok if you just like doing a straight line, no flick but try anything else and you wish you hadn’t. I would not buy this again and this will be a lesson to me for trying something new when I had the best with me all along.
There’s been so much hype and positive reviews about the Maybelline Colour Drama lip range that I thought I’d try the velvet lip pencil and see if I could find a dupe for the Nars matte velvet lip pencil. The Maybelline version was only $8, so I was winning already. I chose the shade Minimalist, which looked like a dusky pink shade in the packaging; once you open it, it kinda reminds you of Nars Orgasm, with all the subtle gold flecks. But my god, it’s no Orgasm! I think on a fair-skinned person it would look good, but on me, it made me look washed out and tacky AF. I managed to salvage it by adding some actual Nars Orgasm lipgloss; however, don’t think I’ll be wearing this shade again. Formula wise, it’s actually quite nice – goes on smoothly, is moisturising and gives good colour. I might try this in fuschia or coral, and see how it goes longevity wise!
This was a random buy from Kmart – I didn’t really need a primer but it intrigued me so I thought, why the hell not? The first time I used this was for a ball night, where I had many layers of make-up on, just to look good in photos. I didn’t know whether my make-up would melt at the end of the night so it was a bit of a gamble. Tell you what – I love this product! It’s a pretty good dupe for the Sephora smoothing primer, and possibly even better at half the cost and double the amount of product you get. I’ve worn this again a few times and each time, after eight hours, my make-up is still freaking flawless. Love it, recommend it.
Gaaaaah want this right now! I love Orgasm (which girl doesn’t?!) and I’m so stoked it comes in a jumbo size now. I haven’t used this shade for years and I’m pretty excited to be using it again soon *smiley love eyes face*
I love Estee Lalonde, and she loves this product so it must be pretty darn fabulous. If this is as amazing as Estee says it is, it might replace my MAC Staunchly Stylish lipliner as my all-time fave. However, I will wait until I order and try it out to make the final call!
Ok, let’s all take a moment to admire how BEAUTIFUL this palette is. Done? OHEMGEE NEED THIS IN MY LIFE RIGHT NOW!
I’ve watched many a Youtube beauty vlog where this is cited as a great contour product and now all I can think about is getting my hands on it! What’s stopping me is the price ($59.20 on Beauty Bay) because I don’t contour at all, and if I’m gonna start, I’m not splurging $60 on what could possibly be a disastrous result! But still, it’s pretty and I want it!
When this came out, I knew I had to have it. This has all the colours that I use everyday, making it pretty much the perfect palette. Looks like I won’t be eating anything or going out anywhere this month…
