It’s been almost a month since my last post – a reflection of how busy life has been! But I’ve also been busy trying out new products, ready to write about in a review post.
It’s also been a while since I’ve written one of these posts, so I’m pretty excited to talk about my favourite topic – beauty and skincare!!!
A few of the products on this list are newbies, while some are things I’ve had lying around and only really started using recently. There’s a mixed bag of love ’em or hate ’ems – share your thoughts on these products if you’ve tried them yourself, and help recommend some new things for me to try.
Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat lip liner in Pillow Talk
Yasss I finally bought this and was… underwhelmed. With all the hype, I imagined this to transform my lips into a pout worthy of Marilyn Monroe, but instead I just had my normal lips, which looked a nice shade of nude. In terms of quality it’s ok, I still think my MAC lip liner is better. However, it’s not to say it’s a terrible product; it’s simply not for me. I would consider buying this in another shade though, so watch this space!
Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G lipstick in Bitch Perfect
This is a great nude lipstick which really does suit most, if not all, skintones. On me (tan/deep skintone) it makes me feel very Kim KW, it’s a beautiful pink nude that is tres chic. The formula is nice, nothing too outstanding; pigment is fab and staying power is average (yes, even paired with the Lip Cheat lip liner). I like layering this with a darker rose hued lipgloss for a natural lip look (like Dolce Vita by Nars).
Maybelline Brow Drama Sculpting Brow Mascara
I bought this as an alternate and easier option to my Benefit Brow Zings, and got two shades: Deep Brown and Transparent. At $10 a pop, why not?! Overall, I think this is great value for money. I mainly use the transparent mascara and then fill in immediately with brow powder to get a sleek, but natural look. I haven’t quite mastered how to use the product as it seems to look dirty and messy when I use the deep brown shade, but that could just come down to the fact I don’t have the bushiest brows going so there’s not much hair for the product to cling to. I’d definitely repurchase the transparent mascara, as it’s great to use to groom brows on my ‘natural, make-up free’ days.
Too Faced Peanut Butter Jelly eyeshadow palette
I dare anyone to open this palette up without spending as least five minutes sniffing the thing! Too Faced are famous for their food themed palettes and this one doesn’t disappoint. The smell, legit, is so divine and I even like just opening it and smelling it when I’m bored. The product itself is great – colours I like (purples, golds, browns) and quality is always on point. It’s a limited edition palette – not sure if it’s still on sale, and if it is, get it now!
Alpha H Triple Action Cleanser
I’d been wanting to try this brand for ages, after reading a lot of positive reviews. In the end I decided to try this product, mainly because it cleansed and removed make-up at once, and being the lazy person I am, this was perfect. It also promotes itself as controlling sebum production for oily skin – tick, tick, tick. I’ve now used it for about two and a half weeks, and I don’t think my skin likes it very much, as I’ve started breaking out again. I’m not sure if that’s because of the cleanser solely, or a combination of late nights, stress and a bad diet, but the only thing that has changed of all these factors is the cleanser! I’ll give it a full month and see how I go, but right now, I’m not loving it as much as I thought I would.
Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre
Not a new product, I’ve had this in the cupboard all year but I’ve only just started using it recently, to combat the tight, slightly irritable skin I’ve been getting from the change in ‘seasons’ (it’s the Pilbara, it’s just gone from temperate to sweat-your-tits-off). I thought using this would inflame my current breakouts, but if anything it’s been calming them instead. I’m sure long-time Embryolisse users are rolling their eyes at me, but it’s all very exciting for me ok?! I love using this day AND night and my skin has started to get that ‘glow’ back. I’m almost at the end of my tube as I can’t resist slathering two to three layers on, and I’ll definitely be repurchasing this two tubes at a time.
Milk Baby Moisturing Qweam
I bought this a couple of months ago as a temporary moisturiser while I waited for my LRP to arrive. What attracted me to this was the list of natural ingredients (95% naturally derived according to the bottle) and that it’s an EU approved product (the EU have very stringent requirements on their beauty and skincare products). This is a great cream to use all over the body and it’s incredibly moisturising without the oily aftershock. The scent is divine and I alternate between this and the Embryolisse as a night cream. Highly recommend for anyone with sensitive skin or who hates using products with a long chemical list of ingredients.
On the hit list
ie: the things I want to buy in the near future.
Ouai shampoo and conditioner
My fave beauty vlogger Estee Lalonde raves about this brand and I want to try it! Although my hair is quite short right now, I still love indulging in luxurious hair products so this is one I’m really excited for.
NARS Velvet Lip Glide
I love Nars so there’s no other reason than wanting this because its a) Nars, and b) new. ‘Nuff said.
Bal D’Afrique by Byredo
I’ve been on the hunt for a while for a new perfume, and this is the one I can’t get out of my mind. I tried it when I went to Melbourne in June, and hands down has been one of the best I’ve tried for ages. According to the description on Mecca’s website, it is ‘a cult-favourite fragrance inspired by the decadence, euphoria and romance of late 1920s Paris, which reveals notes of heavy cedar and vetiver.’ Whatever it is, I WANT TO SMELL OF IT. The only thing stopping me is the steep price tag… $240 for 100ml, eek! If anyone has any suggestions of a unique, affordable perfume to try, let me know in the comments box.
